Another part of my business is repair, replacement and installation of water line. Old water lines can be made of copper, steel or in many cases in the city, lead pipe. New water lines today are either copper which is very expensive, or plastic which is a great deal cheaper. Both copper and plastic will give years to years of service if properly installed.
Water lines can be replaced by digging a new ditch with a backhoe or in many cases a new line can be pulled in as the old line is pulled out. I also have several other ways to replace a water line without digging a ditch. No matter what method is used, it will be necessary to dig a hole to connect the line to the valve near the street or property line. From this point on, it is the responsibility of the water company.
